Throwing My Hemlock Into the Ring

I will confess to a bit of a Craft Crush on Jared of brooklyntweed. I mean, c'mon, his stuff is gorgeous! And when I saw the Hemlock Ring Blanket, I was smitten. If someone had told me a couple of years ago that I'd soon be not only knitting, but knitting a giant doily, I would have looked at them funny. But it's a great knit! Thanks to the very talented Octopus Knits (whose own blanket is looking great), I learned about a more user-friendly version of the pattern. So far, it's about 2 feet in diameter, using 2 balls of Knit Picks Swish Superwash. The color is Delft heather, which is actually a fair bit darker than the picture shows. I bought 7 balls of the stuff, so we'll see how much blanket that gets me. This is going to be a Christmas present for one set of grandparents, and I decided it would be a lot more convenient for them if I picked a yarn that was machine washable.

  2. That's looking lovely! I didn't realize knitpicks had heathered colors in the Swish Superwash -- good to know! I think the Hemlock Ring Blanket will make a great gift (very smart to make it machine washable).

Re: your comment on my blog
I checked out the brain purse - wild! You could totally make a giant clam purse using a similar technique...

Also, I added a little note to my 7.5 random facts where I mention watching TV shows in part to laugh at the ridiculous way science is portrayed, because, as usual, the hint of sarcasm in my voice didn't show through the html : ) Here it is:

"I do find them entertaining, and that's all that matters, right? Edited to add: (Actually, I'm pretty concerned about what effect these portrayals have on the public's understanding of science and scientists, so my "that's all that matters..." comment was meant to be sarcastic. Can you tell I'm torn?)"
