Tuesday Tube: Blow Your Own Sock

This is pretty amazing. As part of of an retreat by Mediamatic in Amsterdam, 4 artists produced this installation that uses a circular knitting machine to create a tube of knit fabric. Visitors blow into different straws (I hope they're disposable!) to control how fast the machine knits and which dyes color the thread. Apparently, in an earlier version, the amount of alcohol content in the blower's breath determined the color, LOL! In another version, they set it up as a game so that 3 people were assigned different different dyes, and whoever blew the hardest would get their color on the thread.
