Trimmings

We crafted one additional type of ornament. These are yarn wreaths, inspired by Smile Like You Mean It, via One Plaid Aunt. We used Berroco Lumina wrapped around shower curtain rings. Here's a little craft tip for those of you who are also into nails (you know who you are): instead of having to plug in the hot glue gun every time you need a bit of adhesive, use old clear polish. I have some bottles of quick-dry top coat that have gotten too gummy to be used for their intended purpose, so I use them as a sort of quick craft glue.

To round out the tree, I got raffia balls because I think they look like yarn balls, and I popped them right over some of the Christmas tree lights. The packs I got had varying sizes, but I only used the ones that were big enough to allow the light to fit inside without the bulb actually touching any part of the ball. Christmas tree lights don't get that hot, but I didn't want to risk it!

Stay tuned. I'll show you the finished tree tomorrow!

  1. Oooh, great tip about the old gummy nail polish as glue. The raffia balls are such a great idea!

  2. I love the yarn-wrapped shower curtain idea -- they're beautiful! But I especially like the idea of re-purposing the top coat that's past its prime. I'm glad I kept all of mine now!

  3. I find that even when using nail polish thinner, the top coat will only work up to a point. After that, it's time to use as glue!
