You are My Sunshine

Thank you all very much for your lovely comments on Eastlake. A little bit of external validation always warms the heart, and to show my appreciation, I'm sharing a pattern I just finished.

At our house, we are all fans of Natasha Bedingfield's "Pocketful of Sunshine." Baby asks for "Bocketbul o' Sunshine" all the time and knows how to scroll through my music library on the iPhone to find it (we think she's destined for Caltech or MIT). It was Sweetie, though, who came up with the request for a knitted sun to carry around in her pocket. Of course, I had to do it!

When the Knit Pick Palette that I ordered for the project came in this week, I found 2 patterns for suns on Ravelry, One is made by knitting squares and sewing them together in such a way as to make a sun shape. There is another adorable one with legs!. It is knitted mostly in the round, but it requires that the nose and rays be knitted separately and sewn on. Both patterns are really cute, but I thought it would be a fun challenge to see if I could knit up a sun all in one piece.

The pattern is in the gallery. If you feel the urge to knit it but don't happen to have spare bright yellow and orange fingering weight yarn, just leave me a comment to that effect by July 31. I'd be happy to send you some of my leftover yarn, and I'll even throw in an iTunes download code for the song! (If there are multiple requests, I'll choose at random).

  4. This is so cute! And I love that it's in one piece. I think my nephew should have one, and I think this is a good way to use up my Shine Sport scraps (yellow and red, but that's close enough, right?)
