Free At Last

Have you ever had a pattern that just absolutely consumed you? For me, it was Ivel. I have not had much knitting time this month, but what time I did have all went to this project. Other stuff fell by the wayside, and I didn't even check blogs and the Ravelry friends page the way I normally do. Part of the reason it had such a hold on me is that there were some problems in the pattern. It was somewhat frustrating, so I was afraid to stop working on it--I knew that if I did, it would languish forever.

If you care for all the excruciating details, they are in the gallery and on Ravelry. Thankfully, it looks like the designer is going to be releasing a new version later this week, and then hopefully the corrections I noted will no longer be relevant.

Now that I finished it, I feel so free! I admit it's currently more of a relief than a joy, but I think that'll change when I actually get to wear this project. I hope to debut it at the Madrona Fiber Arts Festival. That's right--I'm going! It was an early surprise birthday present from my husband. Time to myself to devote to knitting! Hooray!

  1. It is so very pretty! I know what you mean about the feeling of relief, but I bet after the compliments start pouring in you'll feel differently :)

Good to hear from you! I've been looking for posts from you on my friends page. With a good degree of guilt I gave up on our hoodie and used the yarn for a different sweater.

  2. Oooh, it's purdy. I used to look at cardis like that and think, "WTF? Who wants a cardigan that doesn't even button up the whole way?" until I realized I wear my cardigans like that all the time. They *have* more buttons, but I only button the ones around the waist.

  3. It's beautiful, as with all your work. Sorry it was such a bear to finish. But it's all the more satisfying that you pushed on and did it, right? :)

  4. It's gorgeous! That color is beautiful on you too. Thanks for piping up about the probs - I bought that pattern not too long ago so I'm glad to know there are revisions forthcoming.

  5. Absolutely stunning!!! I've fantasized about knitting that sweater and am so glad that a super smart knitter like you took the time to work out the kinks before someone like myself bumbled through it...

  6. Very lovely cardi! That stitch pattern looks slow, but is so pretty done all over like that. Knit something fast and easy for a break :)

  8. Looks like a fun knit, and it came out wonderfully. I love the hook & eye closures just in the middle.
